awards North Louisiana loggers Weyerhaeuser Company's North Louisiana Timberlands region recognized area logging operations with safety and performance awards at a recent appreciation dinner. More than 93 people including nearly 77 logging crew members, attended the February 21 dinner at the Minden Community House. "We wanted to recognize the dedication and hard work of these men who work with Weyerhaeuser in the woods each day," said Mike Branch, logging and marketing manager for Weyerhaeuser's North Louisiana Timberland's region. Crews received awards for safety and overall quality of the timber harvesting work. Contractor Management System awards for the third and fourth quarters of 2005 were presented. The Overall Safety award was presented to two crews. Michael Franks Logging of Winnfield, La., was recognized for transportation and in-woods safety. Randy McDaniel is foreman of the crew. The second award for Overall Safety went to C & C Logging of Taylor, La. Overall Logging and Thinning Contractor Awards are determined by truck weights, in-process audits, exit audits, and transportation audits. The Overall Contractor Award was presented to Benny C. Martin Logging of Friendship, La. Overall Thinning Contractor Award was presented to Powell Sawmill of Marthaville, La. Stacy Powell is foreman of the crew. Weyerhaeuser's North Louisiana Timberlands region manages more than 730,000 acres of timberland, all certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). Among the SFI standards for sound forest and environmental management are guidelines for protecting water and soil quality during timber harvesting. Weyerhaeuser employs almost 2,000, and sustainably manages more than one million acres of timberlands in Louisiana. |
