Dodson mill going to double shift in June

Weyerhaeuser Company, new owner of the former Willamette Industries, has announced expansion of production at its Dodson sawmill and plywood mill.

Mill manager David West said the sawmill will add a second shift, of 63 new employees beginning in June. Interviewing, hiring, and training of the new personnel is underway now, he said.

The Dodson mill was upgraded last year with a state-of-the-art computerized lumber production system. With addition of the second shift, the mill will reach a capacity of 180 million board feet of pine lumber per year, Weyerhaeuser said.

During April, production at the Dodson plywood mill was halted for installation of a n ew lathe, expected to go on line early in May. Installation of the new lathe and related equipment will replace the machine which has been in operation for more than 20 years.

Weyerhaeuser said the lumber market appears to be rebounding, and increased production at the Dodson mill is appropriately timed for more opportunity to reach its customers with lumber products.
