Day at Overton The East Texas Forestry Field Day is scheduled at the Texas A&M Research Center at Overton on Thursday, May 27, with the theme announced as "New Forest Management Strategies." Sponsors say, "Our forests provide a unique ecosystem for many environmental benefits. As Texas grows, so grows the pressure of people and their demands on our natural resources, creating new challenges on forest resource use. Urban sprawl, land use conversion, and market changes are major challenges to the future of forestry in Texas. Landowners, foresters, loggers, and businesses will need to re-evaluate current management objectives and identify new forest management strategies to meet the technical, social, and political challenges on the horizon." The conference opens at 8:30 a.m., with welcome by Darwin Foster, Extension Program leader, Texas Cooperative Extension. Presenters include James Guldin, Southern Research Station, USDA Forest Service; Eric Taylor, Texas Cooperative Extension; Ron Hufford, executive vice president, Texas Forestry Association; and Bill Hubbard, Southern Region Extension Service. Registration is $25 per person, mailed to Conferences & Short Courses, East Texas Forestry Field Day, Texas A&M University, P.O. Drawer H-a, College Station, TX 77844.
