Vernon parish tops in state forestry income Vernon parish topped the list of Louisiana parishes in value of timber production in 2010, according to figures posted by the Louisiana AgCenter annual report of agriculture revenue. The southwest Louisiana parish, with Leesville as its seat of government, produced timber valued at $70,898,062, according to the AgCenter report. Per parish value among the top ten ranged down to $32.3 million in DeSoto. While forestry remains the top agricultural revenue producer in the state, poultry is a strong second, with much of the production in the same North Louisiana hill country region. Union Parish, in the extreme north of the state, again topped the list of parishes in poultry revenue at an impressive $172,341,276, with broiler production and processing within its borders.
