Tony McManus logging operation, based in Winnfield, top photo, and Steven Gaar logging of Dodson, below, were recognized with gifts by Louisiana Loggers Association and Self Insured Fund during the annual membership meeting and banquet in Winnfield on April 26. Two two contractors were named Logger of the Year in their specialty logging categories, in a presentation by Robert Franks, LLA/SIF board member.

The awards are based on appearance, attitude, and safety, Franks said in making the presentation. Each contractor finished last year without an accident, Franks said.

During the meeting Safety Consultant Carey Blanchard made a presentation on accident prevention, aimed at saving workers from injury or death, and maintaining productivity in the woods. Loggers attending the meeting, and other activities at the annual Louisian Forest Festival during the day, earned Continuing Education credits required for certification in the Master Logger program sponsored by the Louisiana Logging Council.
