Ten picked for LA Loggers Hall of Fame

Nine honorees will be presented Louisiana Loggers Hall of Fame awards at the annual presentation ceremony at Dodson, Louisiana on Friday, September 16.

The program begins a 7 p.m. at th Dodson High School Auditorium on Sixth Street, starting with a concert of gospel and popular music singing by The Pine Ridge Quartet of Tioga. The Pine Ridgers, all with backgrounds connected to forestry and logging, are well known in the region and will have records of their music available.

Joining the Hall of Fame ranks this year are the following:
Walter Lynn James of Dodson, and Billy James of Winnfield, long time loggers.

James P. Smith, the former Vocational Agriculture teacher who first introduced forestry as an academic subject at the Atlanta High School in the 1950s, pointing several young men into careers related to forestry and logging.

John Phillip (Pete) Gresham, logging contractor from Atlanta, Loisiana.

Sam A. Rivers, Jr., logging contractor of Zwolle, Louisiana.

Odell Sullivan of Transylvania, Louisiana.

Jimmie Colston and Stanley Sattler, logging contractor partners in C&S Logging.

C. Orville Spikes, logger of Atlanta, Louisiana.

Johnny Williams Smith veteran logger of Goldonna, Louisiana

The Loggers Hall of Fame is sponsored by The Piney Woods Journal, to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the forest industry through their work, and to their family and community in their careers.

The public is invited. There is no admission charge.
