Landry president, Linberg retires from Southern Forest Products Assn.

Lionel J. Landry has been elected president of Southern Forest Products Association, succeeding Karl W. Lindberg, who is retiring, the Association has announced.

Landry's career at SFPA started in 1966, as office manager. Later he was promoted to corporate secretary and exposition director, assuming full responsibility for SFPA's biennial machinery and equipment exposition.

During his 36 years with SFPA, Landry was instrumental in the 1970 reorganization of the Southern Pine Association into SFPA, supervising necessary revisions to the by-laws, and assisting with articles of incorporation, a new name, and a company logo. A native of New Orleans, Landry earned a bachelor of science in economics and his MBA from Louisiana State University.

The SFPA Board also elected Digges Morgan as corporate secretary. Morgan's career at SFPA began in 1984 as assistant vice president of public affairs. He became government affairs vice president in 1986. His new position also involves serving SFPA as director of administration. Morgan earned a bachelor of arts degree in public relations from the University of Oklahoma.

SFPA, headquartered in suburban New Orleans, has represented manufacturers of Southern Pine lumber since 1915. Today, active SFPA member companies in 12 Southeastern states produce over half the nation's Southern Pine lumber.

The retiring Karl Lindberg became president of Southern Forest Products Association January 1, 1987. He joined SFPA, formerly the Southern Pine Association, in 19651 as a field representative covering the Midwest. He continued his climb up the SFPA ladder to marketing vice president in 1983, and had a leadership role in formation of the Wood Products Council.

In addition to serving on numerous industry committees, he is a member of the Forest Products Research Society, American Society of Association Executives, and the American Management Association.

Lindberg is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in wood technology. He is married and has two children.

SFPA is a non-profit trade association of Southern Pine lumber manufacturers from the 12 Southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma.
