Fame nominations open Nominations are open for the third annual Louisiana Loggers Hall of Fame, to be held in Dodson on Friday, September 18. Awards presentations will be held at the Dodson High School. A minimum of five new honorees will be chosen. A nomination form available below or was published on Page 10 of the June edition, or copies may be obtained by mail, by email or fax from The Piney Woods Journal. The Loggers Hall of Fame was created to recognize people of the past and present who have made significant contributions to the craft of logging, to the forest industry in general, and to the communities where they operate. Nominations may be made by family members, by associates, or members of the community, and should be accompanied by a written statement of the achievements, professional and community service of the nominee. Photographs of the nominee, including pictures of his work environment, are welcome, and will be returned after use for publication and exhibit. A family member or associate will be asked to present a brief introduction statement about the selected honorees at the award ceremony, and the honoree will be invited to make a brief statement. The honorees will receive an engraved plaque and a certificate. Loggers recognized in prior inductions are the late Ben Franklin Brown, who logged in Sabine and Winn parishes; Russell (Peck) Leavines of Gardner, Louisiana; John Kermit Martin of Winn Parish; Owen Durand, Sr., of Pollock in Grant Parish, Louisiana; James Nutt, who logged in Louisiana and Texas; J.L. Allen of Winnfield; J.A. Auger of Farmerville, Louisiana; Glenn Futch of Winnfield; G.J. (Pie) Martinez of Zwolle, Louisiana; and Eugene Hubbard of Winnfield. |
