Farmer Course offered for landowners The LSU AgCenter will offer a Master Tree Farmer Shortcourse next spring at nine sites around Louisiana. The program is designed for landowners who wish to integrate their land use and management activities. The shortcourse will consist of seven separate three hour sessions, broadcast by closed-circuit satellite from Clemson University. The first topic will cover forestry terms and concepts - an introduction to forest management planning and the importance of managing land and defining objectives. The second will involve forest taxation, basic forest economics and estate planning. The third course will cover managing stands for marketable products, natural pine management and intensive pine management. In the fourth course, landowners will be introduced to hardwood management. Number five will be about marketing and harvesting. The sixth course will be cover management opportunites and the final subject will feature current issues and how to find the right forest manager. The shortcourse will begin in February, with CLE and CFE credit available. Registration may be for all seven or for each individual session. Deadline for registration is January 9. Seating may be
