Bradley McDowell of Jena, owner of McDowell Logging, Inc., was named Logger of the Year by the Louisiana Loggers Association Self Insured Fund.

The award was presented at the annual membership meeting held at the Forestry Building Civic Center in Winnfield April 29, during the annual Louisiana Forest Festival.

McDowell has been in business 13 years, and a member of the LLA Self Insured Fund since 2002. He logs for International Paper doing clear cuts and first thinnings on company forestlands in northeast Louisiana. He has 11 employees in two shifts, plus two contract haulers.

The Outstanding Logger award, presented by LLA/SIF safety manager Bobby Erskins, is made on the basis of the total operation, including job safety, and efficiency.

McDowell and his wife Leslie have two children, a daughter Mallorie, and a son Matthew.
