prices increase in 3rd quarter Stumpage prices paid for pine sawtimber during the third quarter of 2004 averaged $350.08 per thousand board feet - Doyle (MBF), according to the Quarterly Report of Forest Products from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Baton Rouge. This average represents a 4.0 percent increase from the previous quarter price, and a 9.8 percent increase from one year ago. Prices paid for mixed hardwood sawtimber during the third quarter averaged $374.93 per MBF, a 38.3 percent increase from the second quarter 2004, and 13.8 percent higher than a year ago. Pulpwood stumpage prices averaged $19.38 per cord for pine and $18.29 for hardwood. The LDAF report also shows that for the entire year 2003, volume of both sawtimber and cordwood harvested increased significantly over prior years, and over the five-year average from 1999-2003.
