Tax seminar set by Texas Forest Service

• Lufkin TX

To help Texas timberland property owners understand the tax appraisal system as well as recent legislative changes, the Texas Forest Service has scheduled three workshops in East Texas for the month of February.

The workshops will focus on appraisal of land converted to timber use, reforested land, and sensitive areas within timberland. These sensitive areas include streamside management zones, critical wildlife habitat zones, and aesthetic management zones. Also discussed will be technical calculations on setting timberland appraised values, and implications of recent legislation affecting timber appraisal methods.

The workshop will count for Continuing Education Credits for practicing professionals. Foresters will receive 2.5 hours CFE credit, loggers 2.5 hours CLE credits, and tax appraisers 2.5 hours of CPE credits.

First workshop will be held at Longview Holiday Inn Express February 9. Second will be at Livingston First United Methodist Church February 10, and last at Lufkin Pitser Garrison Civic Center February 18. Hours for the events are 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration fee for the workshops is $40, payable to Texas Forest Service. For information on registration contact Monica Jadlowski with Texas Forest Service at 979-458-6630.
