new head of Winn Demo Committee
Mike Tinnerello, a retired Winn Parish educator and former State Representative from the Winn district, was elected chairman of the Winn Parish Democratic Executive Committee at a special called meeting on August 11.
Tinnerello succeeds Puckett Willis, who held the post for almost 20 years, and stepped down because of age and failing eyesight. He remains a Committee member.
The new chairman announced a plan to fill vacancies on the committee, and become more involved in local and state Democratic Party affairs.
In a later conversation during the campaign meeting for US Senator Mary Landrieu in Natchitoches on August 19, Tinnerello said he is "thinking about" making the race for the Representative seat held by Jim Fannin of Jonesboro, who will have served three consecutive terms and may not run for the post again. Fannin has been mentioned as a candidate for the State Senate in the District which includes Jackson, Lincoln, and a portion of Ouachita, which will also be vacant because of a term-limited incumbent.
The Legislative races occur in November, 2015, along with races for Governor and all state and parish elective offices.
