Mr. Toms was elected Louisiana Forestry Association President for 2017, the organization’s 70th anniversary year. In setting goals for his agenda, he said the two biggest issues facing the forest products industry are insurance for loggers, and a need for more markets for large pine sawtimber.

His message, published on the organization’s website, continues: “Housing, from an excess inventory that began almost 10 years ago, has finally been absorbed. Those markets are coming back, and the mills ae beginning to see an opportunity through higher prices for lumber and construction materials.

“We need to make sure that some of that manufacturing capacity , as it’s being expanded, comes to Louisiana” . . . which is also being sought by Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas.

The LFA 2017 officers include First Vice President Pat Huber, First South Farm Credit; Second Vice President Paul Spillers, Theus, Grisham, Davis & Leigh; Third vice president Tony Diaz, Graphic Packaging Inc.
