Zwolle Loggers Festival May 13 promises fun

Zwolle, in Sabine Parish, will celebrate the 12th annual Zwolle Loggers and Forestry Festival on May 12-13 at the Zwolle Festival Grounds with a parade, competitions, vendors, forestry skills for children, live musical entertainment, and the popular log truck weight-guessing event.

The beauty pageant will be held May 6, (time to be announced), at the Zwolle High School. Presentation of the queen's court will be held at the Friday evening opening of the festival on May 12. Also on Friday evening, the poster sponsor and the poster will be presented, with sales of the poster to follow.

Live entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Other specific festival features and events will include food and craft booths, equipment displays, Cajun mountain climbing, a Saturday morning children's mile run as well as a 5K run, award ceremony for the oldest logger, and a display of the loggers' memorial.

Contests will include mudbogging, best-looking truck, sawing, loading and skidding. In addition to cash contest prizes, door prizes will be given away.

Master Logger continuing education classes will be held on Saturday.
