extended care at Parkview Care Center The foundation is being put in place for the extension to the Parkview Care Center that will house a new nurses station and enlarged rehabilitation areas for an extended care hospital planned there. "We have partnered with HealthSouth to bring this facility to Winnfield," explained Lyn Bankston, CEO of Care One Management Group, Inc. of Winnfield, Louisiana. Care One has provided these services at their nursing facility in Farmerville, Louisiana for the past three years. Care One will provide space and Health South will staff and maintain the facility. When completed, the $800,000 venture will care for 20 patients who require extended care. Basically those who will benefit from this service are those who need care past 25 days in a hospital. Generally those type illnesses fall into the categories of pulmonary conditions, joint replacement, people who have wounds that fail to heal, those who have complications after surgery, stroke victims, patients who require long-term IV care and those suffering from more than one illness. The new hospital will not duplicate services offered at the Winn Parish Medical center. They will serve as a adjunct to those services. Actually, Bankston said the new hospital will utilize ancillary services from the hospital like x-ray and pharmacy needs. "We have the support of the medical community here," said Bankston. "Physicians from here met with the doctors in Farmerville who love their extended care facility." There are several obvious advantages to having a facility in Winnfield. Doctors will be able to continue care of their long-term patients rather than sending them off to hospitals in other parts of the state. Also, families can be supportive without having to drive long distances every day. "This will definitely benefit our community," said Bankston. |
