Beetle Bust honors a pest that just can't be
overlooked... Wally Hay, Festival Coordinator, predicts that Castor's Pine Beetle Bust scheduled November 24-25, will be bigger and better this year. "Our committee works hard," Hay said. "We try to come up with new events, something for everyone who attends." New attractions this year will include a Mrs. Pine Beetle Pageant in addition to the Miss Pine Beetle events. The Mrs. Pine Beetle pageant is scheduled November 11 at Castor High School. Miss Pine Beetle pageants are November 20 and 21 at Castor High School. Melanie Jordan chairs the pageants and can be contacted at 318-544-2542. Another new event is the Pine Beetle Karaoke Contest in the Festival tent on November 24. The sing-off, beginning at 630 p.m ., will give everyone who wants to sing a chance at a cash prize of $100. Contact Elizabeth Jordan, 318-544-0141, for information. Come prepared to perform or listen to a variety of Pine Beetle music. Opening ceremonies on festival day begin at 9 a.m. A parade will follow at 10:30 a.m. Cash prizes will be given for the three best floats. The popular quilt show, a huge success last year, will again be staged in the sanctuary of Castor's First Baptist Church. The show, hosted by Sunshine and Jimmy Williams, begins at 9 a.m. through 3 pl.m. A hand made quilt will be given to the lucky winner whose name is drawn at 2 p.m. Some quilts will be offered for sale. Contact Mrs. Williams at 318-544-2565 for information. Southern Spice Band will wind up the day with rock and roll and country music, with dancing until 10 p.m. |
