Condit forestry scholarship established by Foundation

The Gordon R. Condit Scholarship has been established to assist a forestry student at Louisiana Tech University or Louisiana State University by the Louisiana Forestry Foundation. The $1,000 scholarship was endowed as a gift from his wife, Maxine, their three children and their families.

Condit, a long-time resident of DeRidder who recently moved to Lake Charles, is a consulting forester. He received a B.S. degree in forestry in 1940 from the University of Minnesota and a M.S. in 1941 from Yale University.

He served as the woodlands manager for Boise Cascade and is a former president of the Louisiana Forestry Association. He currently serves on the LFA board of directors and the board for the Louisiana Forestry Foundation.

Applications for the scholarship will be made through the two state schools of forestry at LSU and Louisiana Tech. The scholarship will be awarded annually each year beginning in 2001.

The Louisiana Forestry Foundation awards about $30,000 each year and has presented almost $300,000 in scholarships and grants since 1969. The Foundation was established to promote, develop, and advance education in the field of forestry.

Gifts of any size and nature are welcomed by the Louisiana Forestry Foundation and named endowments can be arranged. For more information call 318-443-2558.
