| Dobson Pulpwood moves to
new chip system Dobson Pulpwood, Inc., chip contractor for Weyerhaeuser Red River Paper Mill at Campti, began operations at a new location adjacent to the paper mill in November 2001. Ronald Dobson, manager, said the new chipping system, still in its shakedown phase, is hitting production of 400 tons per hour. The operation works with a new Fulghum 170 crane, only one of its exact configuration is use in the country. The former chip mill, located about a quarter mile away from the paper mill, has been shut down, and parts of the chipping and screening machinery re-installed in the new mill. Finished chips from the old mill, in operation since the 1950s, were delivered to the mill by truck. The new system delivers chips directly to the paper mill by a conveyor system. Personnel in the new chipping operation have been reduced from an average of 15 employees down to seven. The company's business office operation will continue at the old office just down the road from the paper mill. Dobson Pulpwood was founded in 1955 by Roland Dobson. Ronald manages day to day operations, and finds time to also manage Dobson Farms, an Angus cattle ranch which maintains a prize herd. |
