| Timber prices up
for quarter Stumpage prices paid for pine sawtimber during the second quarter of 2002 averaged $345.54 per thousand board feet (MBF) DOyle, according to the Quarterly Report of Forest Products issued by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Baton Rouge. The second quarter average represents a 3.2 percent increase from the previous quarter, and 4.6 percent increase from the same quarter a year ago. Prices for mixed hardwood sawtimber for second quarter 2002 averaged $291.63 per MBF, a 2.1 percent decrease from first quarter 2002, and 10.0 percent increase over the same quarter a year ago. Pulpwood stumpage prices averaged $18.80 per cord for pine,m and $14.78 per cord for hardwood. By areas within the state, the west central Area 3 pine sawtimber price was highest, at $358.41. In northwest Louisiana area 1, prices averaged $335.07 MBF; with no prices reported for areas 2, 4, and 5 Mixed hardwood was priced at $425.56 MBF in the Northeast Louisiana Mississippi Delta region, area 2; at $359.58 in the Florida parishes area 4; and $353.68 in the South Central Mississippi delta Area 5.
