plant sold to Flakeboard company Weyerhaeuser Company announced on July 31 that it has completed its sale of the North American composite panels business to Flakeboard America Limited, a U.S. subsidiary of Flakeboard Company Ltd. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. In the transaction, Flakeboard has acquired mills in Albany, Ore.; Bennettsville, S.C.; Eugene, Ore.; Malvern, Ark.; and Simsboro, La. The mills, which produce medium density fiberboard (MDF) or particleboard, have the capacity to produce a total of 1.1 billion square feet annually. Locally, the sale means that the former Weyerhaeuser Louisiana Partricleboard operation at Simsboro, which employs about 130 people, is not a part of Flakeboard, according to Mike Wolff, of Natchitoches, Louisiana Public Affairs Manager. Particleboartd, also known as Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is a composite panel used for cabinets and furniture. The Simsboro operation sells this anel product to home improvement warehouses, retailers, and industrial users. Flakeboard is a Delaware corporation headquartered in Fort. Mill, S.C.
